Why?

- I have passion for travel and to experience different cultures and food. Normally my travel time comes once a year during my vacation time ( 3 – 4 weeks ) which was very unsatisfying. During my travels I have always met people on extended journey’s. After my Brazil trip in 2009 I became inspired by the all the people I met on the road and knew this was something I needed to do; go ‘live life’. My trip begins Feb 2011.

Haven’t already traveled enough?

- No, the world is so big yet very small. It is impossible to see everything.

Did you have to quit your job?

- Unfortunately yes. It was a difficult decision to make but at the same time very easy. This was something i needed to do. I did love my job but unfortunately my employer does not give sabbaticals for travel.

What happens when you return?

- Haven’t thought about it really. One year is a long time to be away. We shall see when that time comes around.

You must be really rich? How much will it cost?

- No I didn’t win the lottery! With my style of travel it is quite affordable. I am not too sure what this figure will be but i do estimate it will cost between 10k-20k USD. This all depends on how much I do & sacrifice. My airline miles will really help in making this trip possible. You can see my current costs in the Details page.

Why “got the bug?”?

- The travel bug is something I regularly get so I felt it was appropriate. The bug was quite strong for this trip . In addition I hope to inspire others in pursuing such dreams.

Are you afraid of being lonely, traveling alone?

- Not really. I really enjoy traveling alone. It forces you to interact with people more. In the process you make alot of friends very quickly. Quite often you meet others traveling alone as well.

How do you pack for one year?

- Very lightly, hope to detail this one. Although i didn’t do a great job packing light early on.


Are you going around the world?

- I am not sure where this journey will take me. I haven’t planned too much for this trip but i have a general idea of where I would like to go. Will travel overland where possible and purchase one way air tickets when needed. Luckily I have airline miles to use which will help me out considerably.
Regions I would like to see include: South America, Eastern Europe, Middle East, Africa, India, Asia, South East Asia. We shall see how much I get accomplished from this. My plan is no plan, Go with the flow.
